Residents and volunteers celebrate together in the garden at Grangeway Court

A team of corporate volunteers have been praised by their regional office for their work at Grangeway Court in Cheshire, a P3 accommodation housing families who are homeless.

Nicola Williamson, Contract Administrator at Aggreko’s Widnes depot, coordinated the volunteering project and said that senior leadership at their main hub in Cannock had been impressed by what they’d achieved. The volunteer team completely renovated the garden, decking and outdoor furniture at Grangeway back in May this year.

“Last year we set up a committee to deliver our ‘Orange Days of Difference’ policy. Our team was the first in the UK to do this, and we were rated as the best for the way that we made a difference in the community and integrated different staff – such as sales and engineering – to break down barriers between departments and bring everyone closer together.”

Aggreko kindly threw a barbecue for residents and staff at Grangeway Court last Friday to celebrate the completion of the garden, with Nicola on chef duty!

“Just going round and speaking to residents, it was really rewarding seeing the difference in the garden; residents were using it and you could see that they were more confident, sitting outside and socialising with each other, some are doing vegetable patches now so they were advising each other about that. I know the residents now and my niece has become good friends with one of the little girls there.”

Nicola also added that they’d like to work with P3 again:

“We’re not done with P3 yet! We’ve got an extra volunteering day this year and a lot of people have expressed interest in going back.”

Lindsey Robinson, P3 Head of Support & Community Services (North & Central) said:

“We are delighted that Aggreko chose Grangeway Court to volunteer as part of their annual ‘Orange Days’. The garden looks stunning. Our families who live at the service are out every evening watering the flowerbeds and the children are loving their new play area. The work that Aggreko did has created a sense of community and has really brought people together.

“Nicola has been amazing, and has so much enthusiasm and drive. I spoke to some of the people who live at Grangeway at the barbecue last Friday and they told me that Aggreko were not only volunteers, who gave their time so freely, they are now friends of P3.

"Thank you Nicola and Aggreko!”
