Art for Grenfell auction raises over £1.8 million

1 December 2017

P3 is delighted to have received an amazing £1,898,129 from the charity auction that took place on 16 October at Sotheby’s in London. The auction featured works from leading international artists, with all proceeds going to support the families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

It was what’s known as a ‘White Glove’ auction, with 100% of the lots sold. Some artists, including Tacita Dean and Idris Khan created works especially for the sale, with Dean’s Lay The Dust With Tears selling for £22,500 and Khan’s I Remember making £43,750. The highest price was paid for Wolfgang Tillmans’ Freischwimmer 193 (£392,750) and many other famous artists generously donated works including Tracey Emin, Anish Kapoor and Rachel Whiteread.

This money will be transferred directly to the families by Rugby Portobello Trust (RPT), part of P3 charity, based in North Kensington, London. RPT has already administered over £10 million in grants to Grenfell survivors since the fire in June this year.
