P3 CEO Mark Simms is proud to announce his appointment to the UK Charity Commission’s board for a three-year term.

Mark brings his extensive 25 years’ experience in the charity sector to this new role.

Mark, discussing his appointment to the Charity Commission board, said:

“I’m honoured to add my voice to the Charity Commission board and all it stands for. The incredible, relational work it does to support charities, their purposes and the wider public is nothing short of inspirational. I’m proud to add my voice and use my experience to speak out, represent and serve the sector.

“I am and will always be a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights, and I will stand by these convictions within my new role, as I work to oversee the governance of the Commission and ensure our charitable sector thrives, inspires trust and strengthens society.”

Orlando Fraser, Chair of the Charity Commission, stated that he is “extremely pleased” with board appointment, adding:

“Mark Simms is a legendary charity sector chief executive, known especially for his work at the P3 Rugby Portobello Trust during the Grenfell Tragedy. I know him well from his charity work, and he is a terrific appointment.”

Mark’s appointment recognises his leadership skills which have seen P3 Charity expand its services to reach more people in need, providing them with shelter, support, and resources to help them rebuild their lives.

His career reflects his personal journey from his birth in Nottinghamshire, where Mark grew up in a family actively involved in community work, and who, at an early stage found they needed the support of homelessness organisations. His early exposure to social issues acted as a catalyst, motivating him to pursue a career in mental health nursing before moving on into wider roles within the charity sector, including fundraising, project management and advocacy.

It further acknowledges his wider experience as a Non-Executive Director or Trustee of many independent charities, both large and small, including:

•  Trustee of Homeless Link.
•  Non-Executive Director of New Leaf.
•  Non-Executive Director of The Big Issue Invest.
•  Advisor to the CEO of Big Society Capital.
