LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL

Leaving a gift to P3 in your will looks after the community that matters to you

When we make our wills, we want to make sure our loved ones are cared for, but often we can also leave something special to the causes we support.

Leaving a gift in your will to P3 will allow you to continue supporting our work to end homelessness and social exclusion, leaving a lasting legacy. Every gift, no matter the size, will make a vital contribution to everything we do to improve lives and communities across the UK.

Through supported housing, homelessness prevention, street outreach, youth services and drop-in services, P3 now provides advice and support to over 5,000 people every day, but there are many more people out there who need our help. Your gift could help us reach them.

“I was sleeping in a garage. Now I’ve got my own flat and a job … What changed everything was someone believing in me” – Person supported by P3 Street Outreach Team

There are three main types of gifts:

  • Residuary: a share or all of what's left of the value of your estate after your loved ones have been taken care of
  • Pecuniary: a specific sum of money
  • Specific: an item such as jewellery or art

The advantage of leaving a residuary gift is that it stays the same over time and you won't need to change your will to keep up with inflation or personal circumstances.

You can choose to leave a gift to a P3 service in your local area or leave an unrestricted gift so that we can use it to best support the changing needs of people in all the communities we work in around the UK.

If you already have a will:

If you choose to include a gift to P3, there may not be a need to rewrite your current will.

You can ask a qualified professional such as a solicitor to add an amendment, otherwise known as a 'codicil'. As a general rule, if the change is small or simple, you can use a codicil, and if the change is more significant or complex, they may suggest you make a new will.

For smaller donations or less complex wills, sometimes even a Letter of Wishes is enough to ensure that P3 is supported well into the future.

Suggested wording for making your gift:

The suggested legal wording below will assist your solicitor in writing or amending your will to include your gift in support of our vital work.

Wording for a residuary gift:

'I give the residue of my estate to P3 – People, Potential, Possibilities, Eagle House, Cotmanhay Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8HU (Charity number – 703163), for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.'

Wording for a gift of money or an item:

'I give the sum of £[insert amount] (or the item specified) to P3 – People, Potential, Possibilities, Eagle House, Cotmanhay Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8HU (Charity number – 703163) for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other proper officer of the said charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.'

Whilst we can't recommend a particular solicitor to make your will, we can suggest that you contact The Law Society, who can provide details of solicitors in your area, including those who specialise in wills. We always recommend that your will is drafted by a qualified professional such as a solicitor, as their businesses are regulated by law.
