P3 Charity Launches New Young Persons Homelessness Prevention Service in Nottingham

1 April 2025

P3 Charity (People Potential Possibilities) has launched a groundbreaking young people’s homelessness prevention service in partnership with Nottingham City Council.

This vital initiative will provide essential housing-related support to vulnerable young people aged 16–25 who are at risk of homelessness or struggling to maintain stable tenancies. Set to begin on 1 April 2025, this new service aims to offer early intervention and support to help young people build resilience, develop independence, and avoid the devastating consequences of homelessness. Referrals for the service must be made through the local authority.

Addressing an Urgent Need

With rising levels of youth homelessness across the UK, this service comes at a critical time for Nottingham. Already embedded in the community through its adult homelessness prevention service, which launched in 2023, P3 Charity has supported over 112 individuals in Nottinghamshire over the past two years.

Building on its national reputation for life-changing support since 1972, P3’s mission is to empower individuals to overcome challenges such as housing insecurity, financial hardship and health-related concerns. This new youth-focused initiative aims to provide not only immediate relief, but also long-term strategies for independence.

Comprehensive Support for Young People

The service will provide tailored support from specially trained P3 staff who are dedicated to helping young people find sustainable, long-term solutions. The key areas of support will include:

  • Safe and stable housing: ensuring all young people have access to secure and habitable living spaces by addressing urgent needs, including access to utilities, food security and establishing vital support networks.
  • Financial and housing guidance: offering expert advice on rent management, debt solutions, budgeting and income maximisation to help young people achieve financial stability.
  • Long-term resilience building: Connecting young individuals with community resources and offering referrals to specialised support services to build confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.

Marissa Farrell, P3 Charity’s Operations Manager for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, said: “We are excited to be extending the support to young people in Nottingham City to prevent homelessness. This is a much-needed service that will aim to reach as many people as possible and will be providing advice and support in the community at the places where young people present.”

Councillor Jay Hayes, Executive Member for Housing, Planning and Public Health for Nottingham City Council, added: “We are very pleased to be partnering with P3 for the delivery of this new service to help prevent youth homelessness in Nottingham. Homelessness is a significant challenge in Nottingham and demand for support is increasing here, as it is nationally. We know that the earlier we can support people to tackle the issues causing homelessness, the sooner the risks can be addressed and better and more sustainable outcomes achieved. Therefore, we have designed and invested in this crucial service specifically aimed at young people. P3 already delivers a similar service in the city for adults at risk of rough sleeping and has supported many individuals to obtain and sustain housing and we are confident that this will now also be achieved for younger vulnerable people in the city.”
